If you like design, technology and engineering, you’re in for a treat.

Jaguar decided to follow up its amazing Project 7 with and another Special Vehicle – this time based on the Jaguar XE saloon. To summarise, this is a 200 mph, 600 bhp work of inspired madness that has a touch of the Lotus Carlton about it. With just 300 units available worldwide and a UK price tag of £150,000, these won’t be on the shelves for long.

We’ll let Harry explain the finer details but here are a few interesting facts for the technically minded.

Project 8 develops nearly 800hp at the crank – the supercharger using up nearly 190hp.

The vented bonnet was required to stop it coming off at high speed – the vent also extracts heat.

High speeds mean big brakes. The carbon ceramic discs required bigger 20″ wheels, which meant custom carbon fibre front wings and  +30mm track at the front to allow for them.

The XE SV Project 8 uses ceramic wheel bearings – a first on a production car.

Unlike a true Q-car like the Lotus Carlton, the Project 8 was a pretty conspicuous rear wing. This was a necessity to  balance the aero – the car also uses under body aerodynamics and a proper rear diffuser.

The custom Titanium exhaust doesn’t just sound good – it ups the power output.

All cars will be left hand drive – this was required to allow for the AWD system.
